Week 2 Ukraine                                                July 23, 2012

Dear family and friends,

This week went by super fast.  I feel like I was just sitting here last week writing about what had just went on and now I’m kind of drawing a blank………… but a few things did happen.    I will start with the funny stuff.  It may be more interesting to start with.
I’m not really sure what day it was because all the days seem so similar, but we went out and we were street contacting around this area I had not been to it yet and  it was fairly far from our apartment and we started walking through this area where these kids were obviously drinking and smoking. They kind of surrounded us and my companion started talking to some of them and then I started talking to some others.  It was a little difficult to communicate and after a few minutes we decided it was best to leave. So we left, but two of them followed us and were talking with us.  Then one dropped off and it was us and one other very drunk 20 year old and so we were being nice because we had just talked about patience and he followed us for about 15 minutes.  Then we thought to ourselves……… we need to get some work done, so we started to walk faster and figuring he would drop off and get  tired, but no he kept on following us and to make the long story short he followed us for about 45 minutes. It was a good first encounter with an intoxicated person!  Ha Ha.  But on a spiritual note, after that it had been about 35 minutes of him following us and I really wanted to just talk to normal people.   So I prayed that he would slowly get farther away or something would come up and we could get away and not even kidding two minutes later he stopped to talk to some other people. Then when we turned around again he was gone.  I know Heavenly Father answers prayers………………..even the small ones.
Also on the note of prayer……….…. we were doing some real tracking of door knocking ………well door bell ringing and that day before we left we prayed that we would find at least one new investigators. We walked and it was about 8:30 pm, a half hour before we are supposed to be home and we had just given out a brochure to a man who was about 40 yrs old and he would have been perfect.  He had a nice family and everything, but he said no.   So we were thinking we could head back now……..it’s pretty late and we are a little ways away from home, but instead we knocked on the next door, just for one last try and sure enough the lady let us in.    She agreed to meet with us again and that was another answer to our prayers.   It was so cool…………. she talked most of the time, but she said we could talk the next time.
Now on another funny note, I was walking and we had only been out for maybe 15 minutes…….. When I got a nice surprise of bird poop on my head!   Ha ha!   It was not very pleasant, but I quickly wiped it off and just kept on walking and just ignored it.  I felt it was a bit of a trial, because if I had gone back to wash it out we would have missed 3 opportunities to talk with people who seemed fairly interested in the gospel.   Even if they don’t accept the gospel, we at least set them up for the next missionaries who may come their direction and that would have never happened if I had made a big deal out of something small.
The Lord is preparing His children all over the world and we may not be the ones to baptize them but we are part of that process of helping them come unto Christ and receive this restored gospel.  We are the critical link to help people know that we are servants of the Lord and the only thing we want to do is build their faith in Jesus Christ, so that one day they can take the step and get baptized and return to live with Our Heavenly Father again. I know this work is true and that this church is true and I am grateful to be a part of building the kingdom of God.

I love you all and wish you all the best.

Love Elder Litchfield
